Information Systems(ISs) can be categorised differently by different class of
experts. Based on these categories, Information System types include
Transactional Processing Systems(TPSs), Management Information
Systems(MISs), Decision Support Systems(DSSs), Executive Support
Systems(ESSs) and Entreprise Resource Planning Systems(ERPSs). Using a
firm of your choice with reference to various levels of management
(operations, middle level & top management) in the firm of your choice,
assess the use of TPSs, MISs, DSSs, ESSs and ERPSs in the firm and how
they integrate (if they do at all).

Introduction

About the company- Nestle is a swiss international company dealing in the food and beverages., this is one of the largest and the leading food brand company having spread its business worldwide to everypart of the world providing variety of food product like maggie noodles, chocolates , sauces, health drinks and many more products.

The company structure consist of the three level of managment i.e

  • Top level management
  • Middle level management
  • first level or lower level managers.

1- Top level management - This level of management always comprise of the higher authorities which have the power to control the lower and middle management falling under it. It mostly consist of CEO (Chief Executive Officer) , Directors, COO (Chief Operational Officer) , President, Vice President, Corporate head.As they do not take active part in the day to day activity of the business,their main job is to set up the goals for the company to be achieved by the lower and middle management and instruct them to carry out the desired task.

2- Middle level management- These are those manager that comes under the top management and it includes General manager, Plant Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager and others, their job is to carry out the activities as instructed by the top level managers they set goals for their department by involving and instructing the lower or first level managers.They are more involve in the day to day working of the company as compared to top management and provide them with regular and timely updates.

3- First or Lower level management- These refers to supervisors or first line managers and thus includes Office Manager, Department Manager, Store Manager and others. These are responsiblefor the daily management of the workers, they work according to the instruction given them by middle lenel managemment and thus contact them for the update or with any issue or feedback untill and unless it is necessity to contact the top management with any serious issue.

The Information system of the company includes the following types.

1- Transactional processing system (TPSs)-It refers to the software system, that consist of computer hardware and software hosting a transaction it includes Shipping, Airline resservation, payroll, manufacturing etc It basically refer to as information system that collects, moddifies, retrieve data transaction of an organisation.

2- Management information system (MISs)- It refers to that information system which consist of hardware and com puter software and collects and gathers the data in order to support the management in it decision making function and used for coordination and control of the system.

3- Decision support system (DSSs)- as the very name suggest this information system refers to the kind of information ad data that provid as a guide to the organisation in its decision making process.

4- Executive support system ( ESSs) - This information system refers to the support system which support and assist senior executive in making decision. It helps in monitoring the organisational performance and helps in identifying opportunities and the problem of the enterprise.

5- Enterprise resource planning system (ERPSs) This refers to the software that is used in planning and managing all the important activity related with manufacturing services, supply chain, financial services and other related processess of the enterprise. It helps to connect all the activities of the enterorise for better performance and management.
