The name stepping given to this motor is based on its working principle, one step rotation for one input pulse. Thus, a stepping motor is an ac motor whose shaft moves through one angular step for each input pulse. The range of step size may very from 0.72 degree to 90 degree Actually, a stepping motor can be regarded as a digital electromechanical device.
