QUESTION 3

The managing director of your organization sent a note instructing me to employ a certain woman. In
my capacity as a human resource manager I sent a memo back to the director informing him that since
the management of the organization has a decision to suspend recruitment, I could not agree to his
request.
He was furious about my response. He called on my phone and told me that in his capacity as the
managing director he has the right to recruit anyone he wished. I was not moved, I told him because it
was a policy which he was very much aware of, there was no way we could have employed the woman.
Unfortunately for me but fortunately for the managing director I proceeded on two days casual leave.
The managing director therefore took advantage of my absence to get the woman employed. When I
return there was not much I could do because the woman has already started working.

Answer #1

1)Let us first understand what is ethical leadership?

Ethical leadership is said to be a  leadership that is being channelized by respect for ethical beliefs and values and for the dignity and rights of others. Thus it can be related to concepts such as trust, honesty, consideration, charisma, and fairness.   Ethics is concerned with the dignity of individuals and their motives. The nurturing and fostering aspect of leadership can also raise an organization's culture and employee's values to higher levels of ethical behavior. By displaying ethical leadership we encourage a high level of ethics that brace a sense of trustworthiness and encourages subordinates to accept and follow an organization's vision.

Now coming to human resources it the department that deals with the most important resource of company i,e.human or in organization term "employees".It's a major function of Human resources to see through the well being of the individual, health of the organization. It is the foremost duty of an organization to align the internal beliefs and values with the external behaviors and it is ofter denoted by V4 model i,e. Values, Vision, Voice, and Virtue. It often falls on HR leaders to build an ethical work culture that starts right from hiring an employee to his retirement or with leaving the organization.

2)The first and foremost thing that can be done is to inform the management that the managing director of the organization has taken undue advantage of his position and has violated the policies by favoring certain female and has forced her employment even after denial of her employment. Secondly, his behavior was completely unethical and is not at par with the organizational policy and thirdly the whole process got completed in my absence which is also against the company policy. If the Managing Director is using unethical means then what impact will it have on other employees. This matter should be kept in mind and the required action must be taken.

3)When an organization really cares about its people it's philosophy , culture, and orientation will reflect in its belief. Human resource management is the function performed in an organization that facilitates the most effective use of people to achieve organizational and individual goals. Whether this department exists or not exist in an organization , every manager is concerned for its employees, their performances, and overall growth both individually and at organization level. Human resources are also said as personnel management hence this does not require a specialized department. Each department is concerned for its employees , their welfare, goal attainment as managers are the first point of contact between the management and the employees.
