as the magnetic bar is thrown into the cylindrical container, the cylinderical container gets an induced current due to cange in magnetic flux linked. due to this induced current a magnetic field is created which exert a force on the bar in opposite direction of its motion. so the bar slows down as the bar moves.

this phenomenon is called magnetic induction.and we are using lenz's law here
