Compare and contrast two different forms of aphasia. What part of the brain is specifically affected by each form and how would this affect the mental lexicon?

The two different forms of aphasia are :

  1. Expressive aphasia
  2. Receptive aphasia

1. Expressive aphasia is also known as broca aphasia. It includes loss of language production. The person cannot relate to connect the words. Major content words can be observed but the sentence lacks the grammaticle corrections. The speech of indivual hault and more effort is needed to produce the speech. Thus it is a types of non-fluent aphasia.
The anterior region of frontal lobe (Broca's area) in left hemisphere is affected in expressive aphasia.

2. Receptive aphasia is also known as Wrenicke's aphasia. It ncludes the inabilty of language comprehension. It contrast to the expressive aphasia as a person can give fluent speech with correct grammer use. But, there is difficulty in understanding the language. The speech produced lacks the meaning.
The left posterior temporal region (Wrenicke's area) of brain in left hemisphere is affected in receptive aphasia.

Mental lexicon is the collection of information related to word, their meanings, and pronounciation of words.
In aphasia, the damage to the major areas of speech and information processing are damaged. This results in imapired cognition and memory. In receptive aphasia, the mental lexicon can be affected by inability of the brain to remember a word, object and lacking in organization of the lexion.
In expressive aphasia, the deificit of verb production affects mental lexion. Individial lacks the information that connects a sentence.
