a) Find the total amount of charge transferred in Coulombs from a current of 0.338 A in 485 seconds. b) Then, determine how many electrons this amount of charge represents. c) Based on the number of electrons that passes through the wire, determine the number of Copper atoms that moved from the Copper metal to the Zinc. Cu(s) --> Cu2+ (aq) + 2e-. d) Using this information find Avogadro's number.

I found the initial mass of the copper to be 4.121g and final mass to be 4.065g.

To relate current, time, charge, and mass for electroplating calculations. Electroplating is a form of electrolysis in which a metal is deposited on the surface of another metal. To quantify electrolysis, use the following relationships. Electric current is measured in amperes (A ), which expresses the amount of charge, in coulombs (C ), that flows per second (s ): 1 A=1 C/s Another unit of charge is the faraday (F ), which is equal to a mole of electrons and...

The CuCu ions undergo reduction by accepting two electrons from the copper electrode (cathode) and depositing on the electrode as Cu(s)Cu(s). The reduction half-cell reaction that takes place at the cathode is Cu^2+(aq)+2e^−→Cu(s)Cu^2+(aq)+2e^-→Cu(s) The electrons lost by the ZnZn metal are gained by the CuCu ion. The transfer of electrons between ZnZn metal and CuCu ions is made possible by connecting the wire between the ZnZn electrode and the CuCu electrode. Thus, in the voltaic cell, the electrons flow through...

Chem 1212 Lab Report on electrochemistry Electrochemistry When electrons transfer between reaction components in a redox reaction, we can harness the motion of the electrons to create a potential. Electrochemistry revolves around the separation of the two half-reactions in a redox reaction and establishing two different electrodes. This might involve physically separating the half-reactions or including a separator, such as a semi-permeable membrane or plastic dividers. With the reactions separated, the electrons will need to flow through the wire connecting...
