Does amazon associates primarily operate in civil law or common law countries? What are some of the implications of this?
A Washington University Law article tells us that countries like China, Japan, Germany, France, and Spain are all civil law countries while the US, England, India, and Canada are common law countries (Syam, 2017). Amazon operates in both civil law and common law countries pretty much equally (Amazon Services, 2017). As told by Syam, in civil law countries, judges often take the lead in the proceedings by bringing charges, establishing facts through witness examination and applying remedies found in legal codes. In contrast, in a common law country, lawyers make presentations to the judge and examine witnesses themselves. The proceedings are then mediated by the judge (Syam, 2017).
