Answer #1

Ans. All three species which are given include California Newts, Gray Squirrels, and California Thrashers belong to the same range so they share a common habitat or niches. A niche refers to how an organism fits into an ecosystem or ecological group. A niche is the evolutionary product of the morphological (morphology is a physical form of an organism), the physiological and the behavioral adaptations to its environment by the mechanism of natural selection. As all the three organisms belong to different groups of animals so they are not the member of the same community neither there is competition for resources among them but as they live in the same range so they have similar niches.

So, the answer is:

C. have similar niches

In the last few years many species have shifted their ranges toward the poles. The most likely explanation for this is A) decreased gene flow from central to marginal populations B) growth of populations near the periphery of the former range allowing adaptation to the conditions at the edge of the range C) warming of the planet in the higher latitudes D) reduced interspecific competition

) Barnacles (hard-shelled marine invertebrates) live on rocks in the intertidal zone. In an experiment involving two species, Semibalanus balanoides and Chthamalus stellatus, they were found to be able to coexist. The Semibalanus species was found to have rapid growth, and the ability to crush slower-growing Chthamalus species. However, the Chthamalus species was found to tolerate dry conditions. These species were therefore found to exist in two distinct bands, one higher and one lower, in the intertidal zone. All of...
