Answer #1

Answer is E.

The niche is the functional habitat occupied by and organism. It is related to the functionality of an Organism. The greater the availablity of resources, more will be the species richness. Because of lack of interference competition between two species. The niche is well suitable for those organisms which are fiund to be well adapted in that environment. The degree of resources used by species also affcets the niche because of competition.

Competitive interactions can occur within species (intraspecific competition) or between species (interspecific competition). These interactions are often intense, but intensity is virtually always a part of one of the two types of competition. Which of the following helps explain this observation? Multiple Choice Interspecific competition is usually intense because different species cannot partition resources when resource requirements overlap Introspecific competition is usually intense because individuals have nearly identical resource requirements Interspecific competition is usually intense because it may involve predator/prey...

Which statement about organisms' "niche" is false? The niche summarizes environmental factors influencing growth, survival, and reproduction of a species The "fundamental" niche refers to physical, but not biological, aspects of the environment Interactions such as competition and parasitism may restrict the size of an organism's niche In the laboratory, two species with identical niches are especially easy to maintain in a mixed culture Which of the following is NOT a population characteristic favored by K-selection? low intrinsic rate of...

) Barnacles (hard-shelled marine invertebrates) live on rocks in the intertidal zone. In an experiment involving two species, Semibalanus balanoides and Chthamalus stellatus, they were found to be able to coexist. The Semibalanus species was found to have rapid growth, and the ability to crush slower-growing Chthamalus species. However, the Chthamalus species was found to tolerate dry conditions. These species were therefore found to exist in two distinct bands, one higher and one lower, in the intertidal zone. All of...
