Answer #1

The correct answer is option e- A protein that is normally localized to the mitochondria is mutated to add a signalling peptide at its N Terminus.

Explanation: Signal peptide helps in transport of proteins to its proper destination and it also helps in secretion f proteins. So if signal sequence is deleted, it cannot be secreted.so, option a and c is not correct. If NLS is deleted from a protein , a protein after entry into a cell interior by endocytosis cannot move to the nucleus as NLS help the protein to be localized into the nucleus. So option d is also not correct. A mitochondrial protein , if got a signaling peptide at its N terminus, it will be secreted outside. So the correct answer is option e. As only one option is correct, option b is also not correct.

Scientists want to design fluorescent marker proteins for different cellular compartments using the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP). This means that the GFP will be targeted and glow at the organelle of interest and they can use these to mark different organelles during fluorescence microscopy. To make these marker proteins, they take the sequence of GFP and add the desired sorting signal. A. GFP on its own is an excellent protein to use as an organelle marker protein because it is...

    6. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), often called amylin, is a peptide hormone that is co-secreted with insulin from pancreatic B-cells. In combination, insulin and amylin regulate blood glucose levels. In this signaling process, amylin participates in slowing gastric emptying and promoting satiety, helping to prevent spikes in blood glucose levels. Using your knowledge of protein sequencing and proteomics, answer the questions below related to amylin. A. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP, amylin) is produced by processing of a precursor protein called...
