Annelids exhibit two characteristics shared by all other bilateral animals except flatworms:

1. Complete digestive tract: digestive tracts of annelids are considered as complete as it has mouth and anus. Whereas, flatworms have incomplete digestive tract as it has only one opening.

2. Body cavity: annelids have body cavity or coelom but flatworms are devoid of coelom and known as acoelomates.
