Auscultate thorax anteriorly posteriorly, and
laterally identifies lung sounds.
Identify percussion notes/ symmetry
anteriorly.

Palpates for tactile fremitus anteriorly and
posteriorly.
Inspects/palpates AP versus transverse
diameter.
Palpates for masses, tenderness, crepitus.
Palpates for symmetrical expansion.
1.Have patient sit upright and take deep breath slowly opening mouth and then auscultate anterior, posterior and laterally. Normal breath sounds include vesicular, bronchial and bronchovesicular.
2.Lungs are mostly filled with air. It will produce a resonant sound.
3.The middlle finger normally placed in intercostal spaces, not on ribs and produce resonant sound. Dull sound heard over bones.
4.In tactile fremitus the intensity of vibrations produced from spoken words are assessed. An increase in it indicates inflammed lung tissue.
5.In inspection AP diameter compared to transverse diameter of 1:1 barrel chest.If AP increased then pigeon chest.
6.Crepitus is feeling of crackles under finger tips. It indicates pneumothorax.
7.Assymetrical chest expansion is abnormal and indicates pleural diseass. Normally 2- 5 inch lung expansion can be observed.
