Answer #1

The Douglas' Hierarchical decomposition approach is a method which is used for the synthesis of process flow sheets of the newly developed methods.Inorder to synthesis of a new process flow sheet, heuristics are used for the representation of structural elements in the flowsheet and also by using these heuristics we can be able to make out decisions while developing a process flow sheet. The Douglas' Hierarchical decomposition approach is classified into three categories which are as follows:

1)The assumptions which are used to develop flow sheet

2)The assumptions which are used to develop some of the design variables

3)The assumptions which are used to implement environmentally accepted designs.

After this, the decomposition analysis is based on the following levels:

Batch vs Continuous - Input output structure of Flowsheet Recycle structure of the Flowsheet and Reactor conside- rations sep
