In Hong Kong, unlike in many other societies, even parents who have improve their own position in society through manual labour and the application of natural intelligence with little formal education have been found to be more than 90 percent supportive of their own children following the route to higher education as a better preparation for overall success. The practical natural intelligence and hardworking ethic of these parents may have given them great personal success but typically this seen to seen to some extent as the outcome of good luck.
Smart parents with a strongly positive attitude towards education should be a great asset to the reform and improvement of education in Hong Kong. This could easily be combined with their current role of being the motivators most respected by their own children.
