Prejudice refers to having negative attitude, assumptions and opinion about a person or group without having any prior experience while discrimination refers to showing that in action. This would mean that most of the time people engage in prejudice due to closed mindedness that would prevent them from gaining experience and exposure which would make them stand at a distance and judge others. Secondly, the superiority mindset of people would force them to view and treat others with prejudice because it would help them advance their causes while engage in discrimination towards others. Thirdly, ignorance is one of the key elements that causes prejudice and discrimination because people assume and construct things such as intelligence and race because they are ignorant. Today, people have come to understand that many things that they attached to racial superiority is wrong.
People should become more open and gain first hand experience to overcome prejudice and discrimination. They should learn to become open to experience and exposure to the group towards whom they hold prejudice or who they discriminate which would help them understand that they are wrong. Finally, people should appreciate relativism which refers to seeing things from the perspective of those who do it which would help them understand the importance of those thing to those who practice it.
