A genotype having 1 X chromosome will be male. The gamete produced by the male will be X and 0.

A genotype having 2 X chromosome is female. The gametes produced by the female will be X and X.

So, in male having genotype XO, the X chromosome will be inherited from the mother.

In sex linked disease the male offspring can express the disease if the X chromosome present in male has the defective gene. This X chromosome will be inherited from the mother. Thus, the disease will be expressed in the male progeny if the mother passed the allele coding for disease.
