The labour force participation rate is the measure to evaluate working-age population in an economy. The labor force participation rate is the percentage of the civilian noninstitutional population 16 years and older that is working or actively looking for work. It is an important labor market measure because it represents the relative amount of labor resources available for the production of goods and services.
To calculate the labor force participation rate we divide the number of people actively participating in the labor force by the total number of people eligible to participate in the labor force. Then multiply the resulting quotient by 100 to get the percentage.
Labor force participation rate = labour force (employed + unemployed) / working age population
