I have found quite interesting that : “ Once you have identified the opposition, stay close to them, spend time with them, ask for their input on your initiative, listen closely to their reality and take their temperature to assess how much heat you are putting on them and how desperate they are becoming.” (Heifets, et al, 2009, page140). In order to lead adaptive change is not sufficient to merely identify who the opposition is. Moreover, it is crucial to stay connected to the opposition by considering it as an indispensable component for the desired goal.
I strongly agree with the things mentioned in the text. The occurrence of opposition is quite natural in a situation when a change is being introduced in an organization. Normally, people at the helm of power are searching for the people who are raising opposition. It is a wrong approach in managing organizational change, instead, the management could connect with those opposing a particular change in the organization. They have to find time to clear their doubts and concerns. The management also could ask the opinion of those who are opposing the change. This approach will also be good for creating a conducive work environment in the organization. Further, it helps the organization in understanding the reaction of people working in an organization towards the changes that are introduced.
