Null hypothesis: The number of home team and visiting team wins are independent of the sport.

Alternate hypothesis:  The number of home team and visiting team wins are not independent of the sport.

Test statistic:

\chi ^2=\sum_{l=1}^{2}\sum_{k=1}^{4}\frac{(O_i-E_i)^2}{E_i}

where Oi is the observed value and Ei is the expected value.

\chi ^2=0.043+0.641+0.005+0.706+0.059+0.871+0.006+0.959=3.29

Value of test statistic = 3.29

degrees of freedom: v=(l-1)*(k-1)=1*3=3

level of significance: \alpha =0.01

Critical value: \chi ^2_{\alpha ,v}=\chi ^2_{0.01,3}=11.345

\chi ^2<\chi ^2_{0.01,3}

We fail to reject the null hypothesis at \alpha =0.01 level of significance and conclude that the number of home team and visiting team wins are independent of the sport.
