Electrolytes conduct electricity because of the availability of charged ions. Especially, electrolytes conduct electricity when they are found dissolved in a polar solvent like water. Due to Coulumbic force, when current is applied, the positively charged ions in water move towards negative electrode and the negatively charged ions move towards positive electrode. Electricity is conducted because of this motion of ions.
