Answer #1

Solution:

16) Hybridization of Carbon can be simply calculated by knowing the numbers of atoms directly attached to the Carbon. The Carbon may have 2, 3 and 4 atoms directly attached, so the Carbon will have sp, sp2, sp3 hydridization, respectively.

A) C1 has 4 atoms attached ( 3H and C2 ). So, C1 will have Sp3 hydridization. So, C1 has Sp3 hydridization.

B) C2 has 4 atoms attached ( 2H, C1, C3 ). So, C2 will have Sp3 hydridization. So, C2 has Sp3 hydridization.

C) C3 has 2 atoms attached ( C2, C4 ). So, C3 will have Sp hybridization. So, C3 has Sp hybridization.

D) C4 has 2 atoms attached ( C3, C5 ). So, C4 will have Sp hybridization. So, C4 has Sp hybridization.

E) C5 has 3 atoms attached ( H, C4, C6 ). So, C5 will have Sp2 hybridization. So, C5 has Sp2 hybridization.

F) C6 has 3 atoms attached ( 2H, C5 ). So, C6 will have Sp2 hybridization. So, C6 has Sp2 hybridization.

17) For a Compound to exhibit Cis - trans isomerism, it must have an alkene. We can say that the main condition for Cis - trans isomerism to occur is that the compound should have a double bond character, hence it should be an alkene.

As compound (1) and (2) exhibits double bond but compound (3) does not. So, (1) and (2) will show Cis trans isomerism while (3) will not.

Hence, Option B ( 1 and 2 ) is the correct answer.

18) Given, Density (D) = 0.910 g/mL

Mass (m) = 0.490 Kg or 490 gm

We need to calculate Volume(V).

We know, Density (D) = Mass (M) / Volume (V)

Or, Volume (V) = Mass (M) / Density (D)

So, Volume (V) = ( 490 gm ) / ( 0.910 g/mL )

Or, Volume (V) = 446 mL

So, the Volume (V) of pure liquid = 446 mL

Hence, Option D, ( 446 mL ) is the correct answer.
