In your view, discuss five (5) impact the use of ICT has had in Ghana. 2. You are an IT Consultant for UEW Basic School. The school wants to set up a LAN consisting of 50 computers in its ICT Lab to aid in teaching and learning. a.) Identify and discuss five (5) communication devices you will need to set up the LAN. b.) With the aid of a well-labeled diagram, describe which topology you will use, giving five (5) reasons for your choice. 3. You have been appointed as the ICT teacher in your school. Advice your learners on five (5) ways they can avoid health problems when using a computer.

1. (A) It enables most organizations to increase productivity and profitability.

(B). For education, the purpose of ICT is generally to familiarise students and teachers with the use and workings of computers, related social and ethical issues.

(C). Smart solutions for the future including laptop learning, e-learning, smart classrooms, didactic equipment and stimulations is the key to education today.

(D). Uses of ICTs for simulations and modeling in science and math have been shown to be effective, as have word processing and communication software (e-mail) in the development of student language and communication skills.

(E) Acquisition of competencies such as critical thinking and collaboration are also considered a positive impact of ICT.

2.(a) Five devices are:-

Network Workstations- The whole point of a LAN is to have users working together collaboratively, or at least sharing the network's resources, so all of those users need to have a way to access the network. That's done through the individual computers, or workstations, that are connected together to make up the LAN.

Network Interface Cards and Drivers - Your individual workstations won't be part of the network unless they have some way of communicating with everything else that's on the LAN. That requires something called a Network Interface Card, usually shorted to NIC. This provides a way for your computer to connect to the LAN and exchange information with it.

Shared Hardware Resources - This part of your LAN includes all of the hubs, switches and routers that physically connect the cabling between devices across your network, and between your network and the internet or your own company's larger Wide Area Network.

A Communications Medium - You can have everything you need for a LAN in your offices, all freshly installed and gleaming, but they're so many separate lumps of hardware until you actually give them a way to communicate. You need to connect all of those computers together, either physically with cabling or virtually through a Wi-Fi connection.

Networking Operating System (OS) - One of the most crucial pieces of a LAN is the software that juggles all of your network's resources and users so that everybody has what they need. It keeps track of what devices are on the LAN, what programs are running, what information is being circulated around the network and which of the network's resources are needed to make it all work.

(b) If you have the 50 computers all in the same physical room, you can place there 2 32 port switches. Connect each computer to one of the switches. Connect each switch to a router, which in turn connects to the ISP. Your network is ready for action.

But if the computers are in 3 rooms for example, you can use a similar approach, but this time go with a switch per each room. And then connect each switch to the router.

This is called hybrid star topology and it is the most widely used topology for end user networks.

3. (A). Protect your eyes.

(B). Drink lots of water - Proper hydration is important when working in front of the computer all day. Put a glass of water nearby so it’s easily accessible (and you don’t forget). You can also walk to the water cooler every now and then to break continuous computer use.

(C) Minimize use of computers and gadgets in the evenings - Blue light emitted by cell phones, computers or tablets have been found to disrupt sleep patterns.

(D) Adjust lights - adjust the light in the room to match the brightness from your display, which lessens the strain on your eyes.

(E) Adjust font - If you find yourself straining to read type in documents or on websites, use a larger font.
