The life cycle of flowering plants:

The life cycle of flowering plants is consist of some stages. In the diagram below such stages are represented.

Explanation:

The flower contains two Reproductive parts

  1. Androecium and
  2. Gynoecium.

The androecium is the male part of the flowering plant which produces microspore after meiosis. The microspore becomes pollen grains. The pollen grains contain 2 male nuclei.

The gynoecium is the female part of the flowering plant which producers megaspore after meiosis. The megaspore contains egg along with 6 other nuclei and the megaspore becomes embryo sacs.

After pollination and production of the pollen tubes, the angiosperms plants go for double fertilization. In this process one male nucleus ( n) fuse with egg (n) and produce a zygote (2n) and the other male nuclei fertilize two polar nuclei and produce endosperm (3n).

After fertilization, the mature ovary becomes a fruit and the ovules become seeds that contain an embryo. And the endosperm is taken up by two cotyledons.
