Phosphorylation is defined as process of adding phosphate group to an organic compound.

The addition of phosphate group to adenosine diphosphate gives adenosine triphosphate, this reaction is given as:

ADP + Pi (inorganic phospahte group) + free energy \rightarrow ATP + Water(H_2O)

So, on phosphorylation of ADP leads to formation of ATP and small molecules of water (H_2O) .
