School administrators wondered whether class size and grade achievement (in percent) were

related. A random sample of classes revealed the following data where the number of students, x,

affects the average grade, y. Given that ^y = 90.92 - 0.39x

No. of students: 15 10 8 20 18 6

Avg. grade (%): 85 90 82 80 84 92

a) Predict the average grade for the number of students is 20 and compute the residual. Is the

average grade average or below average for the number of students?

b) Predict the average grade for the number of students is 10 and compute the residual. Is the

average grade average or below average for the number of students?

Answer #1

a)

from given regression equation:

predicted value =90.92-0.39*20 =83.12

residual =actual-predicted value =80-83.12 =-3.12

since residual is negative ; below average for the number of students

b)

predicted value =90.92-0.39*10 =87.02

residual =actual-predicted value =90-87.02 =2.98

since residual is positive ; above average for the number of students

    Two freshman algebra classes were studied, one of which used laptop computers at school and at home, while the other class did not. In each class, students were given a survey at the beginning and end of the semester, measuring his or her technological level. The scores were recorded for the end of semester survey (x) and the final examination (y) for the laptop group. The data and the MINITAB printout are shown here. Alumni donations are an important source of revenue for college and universities. If administrators could determine the factors that could lead to increases in thepercentage of alumni who make a donation, they might be able to implement policies that could lead to increased revenues. Research shows that students who are moresatisfied with their contact with teachers are more likely to graduate. As a result, one might suspect that smaller class sizes and lower student-faculty ratios mightlead to a higher percentage...

Your program will compute an average and print out certain reports. Format: The information for each student is on separate lines of input. Using C programming For this project, you have been tasked to read a text file with student grades and perform several operations with them. First, you must read the file, loading the student records. Each record (line) contains the student’s identification number and then four of the student’s numerical test grades. Your application should find the average of the four grades and insert them into the same array as the id number and four grades. I suggest using a 5th...

Upon learning about OLS regression you realize that you are able...
