Baumrind based upon her studies defined four types of parenting styles. They are as follows:

• authoritarian : here parents are cold with high expectations, strict rules, not ready to negotiate, zero freedom and expects strict obedience from their children.
• authoritative : here parents are warm and responsive, define clear rules and are ready to negotiate, have high expectations, supportive and give valued freedom.
• permissive : here parents are warm and responsive but lenient that is give full freedom to their kids
• neglectful : here parents are cold and unresponsive, no rules, freedom without rules

thus authoritarian environment leads to behavioral complications in children, authoritative environment leads to all round development of the children, permissive environment leads children with egocentric tendencies, and neglectful parenting styles leads to behavioral complications such as impulsive behavior, suicidal tendencies, etc.
