What are some of the ways that gender and race/ethnicity interact that result in inequality in schooling?
People of minority groups based on race, gender, religion, culture face discrimination everywhere in the society and race is one of the most important determinants that would either make one progress or hinder one’s progress in the society. Education is one of the most important tools using which one could fight all the other inequalities but when one face inequality in terms of receiving education itself, it would become hard to pursue life, liberty and property as the society suggests. However, it’s the women in the minority race who face a double-edged sword one from the majority race and the other from their own race that would discriminate and dominate women in all spheres. Firstly, a woman should fight one’s own race or ethnic restrictions to move herself up in the social ladder through education. If she is limited within her own sphere, everything is lost. While men in all the societies are supported and encouraged to get education because they are considered to be the providers and protectors of the family. If at all a woman fights her way through her own people, she would face a bigger hurdle when she comes to the larger society in the name of racial inequality. This would not only delay her progress but also force her to endure more hardship that women in the majority race.
