Answer #1

1. Which of the following is NOT a method of applying Flux ?

ANSWER : All the below said 3 methods are applying Flux in the Welding Applications.

1 ) . Pouring Granular Flux on to the Joint : Granular Flux is the type of Flux, that is made up of small particles. It is used in the Submerged Arc Welding ( SAW ). The Granular Flux poured on to the joint at the time of welding. It provides a Blanket over the weld, which protects against Sparks and Splatter. The Granular Flux is used to achieve a high deposition molten metal rates.

2 ) . Melting Stick electrode Flux coating during the operation : In Arc Welding, the Welding Rod ( Electoode ), by default, that is in electrode manufacturing itself , the manufacturers will apply the Flux coating on the Welding Rod ( Electoode ) surface. So, at the time of welding, the Flux melt with electrode metal and form a Gas and cover the welding surface ( Welding Joints ).

3 ) . Deliver Flux to the joint via a tube : In Aluminium Brazing ( It is one type of welding used to weld the Aluminium Material ), the dry powder used to pass through tube on the welding surface to provide the protection for welding joints.

2. Which is NOT a benefit of using Flux in Welding ?

ANSWER : All the below said 4 points are benefit of using Flux in Welding.

1 ) . Provides protective atmosphere for Welding : Flux provides a Blanket over the weld, which protects against atmosphere. That is, it protects the molten metal from contamonation of Oxygen & Nitrogen which is available in the Atmosphere Air. If Oxygen & Nitrogen contamonation will happen in the molten metal, it will weaken the welding Strength.

2 ) . Stabilizing Arc : Flux will stabilize the Arc. It will shield the Arc from atmosphere and provide the continuous Arc which enables the continuous welding and avoid the Intermittent welding. If Intermittent welding will happen between the joints then , it will weaken the welding Strength.

3 ) . Increase the efficiency of transferring heat to the Operation : The Flux will Increase the efficiency of transferring heat to the Operation. That is, the Flux will not allow the heat transferred to the atmosphere. So, the electrode metal will get melted easily without much further energy ( heat ) required for that operation. So, continuous welding will happen and that will strengthen the welding joints.

4 ) . Reduce Spattering of Molten Metal : At the time of welding, the molten metal will get spattered around the welding surface. So, if the molten metal spatters around the welding surface, it will become the additional work to clean the spattered metal around the welding surface. So, If Flux is available, it will reduce the spattering of molten metal around the welding surface and finally the cleaning work will get reduced.
