Thread: Neurodevelopmental disorders are characterized by irregularities in central nervous system development that adversely impact learning, executive cognitive processes, social behavior, and general intellectual functioning. For many with neurodevelopmentaldisorders, functioning is impacted into adulthood. The purpose of this forum is for you to evaluate the effects that neurodevelopmentaldisorders may have on two key developmental tasks of adulthood: establishing meaningful work and forming intimate relationships. For the current discussion, please address the following issues in your thread: (in a full complete thought of five hundred words.)

  1. Choose 1 the following neurodevelopmental disorders and describe its diagnostic features: Learning Disorders, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Fragile-X Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, or Tourette Syndrome. (Don't forget to cite the source(s) of your information!)
  2. Using the textbook (Fundamentals of Human Neuropsychology, 7th edition by Kolb, B and Whishaw, I.Q) and at least 1 other scholarly source, discuss the impact that the disorder you chose has on the ability to work and to establish romantic relationships.
  3. An issue that is passionately debated in Christian circles is the "age of accountability," or the belief that God saves people who die never having possessed the ability to make a decision for or against faith in Christ (e.g., young children, the intellectually disabled). Using scholarly support, discuss whether or not a person diagnosed with the disorder you chose can have the cognitive capacity to make a true commitment to belief in Christ. Using scriptural support, discuss the implications of your stance for this person's salvation.

ANS- The diagnosis can be made by the professional who looks after mental health. For example- A psychologist, a psychiatrist, a care provider, or a pediatrician.

These professionals ask parents, teachers and other adults about the behavior of their child at school, home and with their friends. They also check whether a child has different condition that can explain his/her symptoms in a better way or that happens at the time of ADHD.

DSM-5 Criteria is used to diagnose ADHD. A pattern of inattention and hyperactivity, impulsivity is shown in the people with ADHD.

Inattention- Not able to give attention to detail, they make careless mistakes, not able to pay attention during different activities.

Hyperactivity, impulsivity- Running or climbing in a situation where it is not required to, excessive talking, etc.
