The populations of maggot are now undergoing Sympatric speciation. In this form of speciation, the populations inhabit the same geographical area but even though there is nothing stopping the individuals in the entire population from mixing and mating, it still does not happen. For some reason, individuals within the population only mate with individuals in their immediate area, in this case they only mate with the ones who share their food sources. In time as they have become reproductively isolated over time, the apple maggots become different species from orange maggots.
