Scenario:

John is a university student studying in Boston. He lives in Chicago, and after many months of searching, he found the perfect internship in his home city. He went on an interview and was awarded the position. When he was reading over the internship contract, he saw that the internship is for a minimum of six months. However, John only has 3 months of summer vacation. What should John do? Should he accept the internship and quit after 3 months, or should he be honest with the company even though it may mean he might lose the opportunity? Is there another option?

Introduction= The current situation indicates that John receives the internship offer from a company for 6 months but he has only 3 months for the internship. He has the dilemma of whether to reject or accept the offer and then leave after 3 months or to communicate the situation to the company

One option= The first option is that he should reject the offer but this puts him in a difficult situation as he is in need of the internship in his home city. The positive side of this situation will be that he can overcome the dilemma and can look to find the other option, While the negative side is that he has to find again new opportunity and he may not receive the same.

The second option= The second option is that he should accept the offer for the internship at present and then leave once 3 months end. This is not an ethical thing to do. The positive aspect is that he can fulfill the internship for the given time period and fulfill his requirement but the negative side is that this is completely unethical to do.

The third option= The third option is that he should communicate the situation clearly to the company and expect a positive response from them. The positive side of this is that he acts ethically and he will not feel guilty of deceiving the company. The negative side of the decision will be that the company may reject him to appoint for the internship.

Position= In the given scenario, the best option will be to tell the reality that he can only work for 3 months and leave the decision on the management His candidness and honesty may provide him the chance to work in the company. At the same time, this approach has a more ethical high point.
