Though most people first think of an unclean and unshaven man (51% of the homeless population) as "the face of the homeless," other groups including families with children (30%), single women (17%), and unaccompanied minors (2%) also suffer from homelessness. Why do you feel that these other groups do not get as much attention as homeless men?

The major reason behind the group such as families with children, single women and unaccompanied minors not being recognized as homeless individuals has to do with two major factors-

1. Statistics- As clear in the data provided, homeless men account for more than half of the homeless population which creates an association between people in the society and their perception of the homeless individuals.
2. Social Constructs- There are multiple organizations working for the welfare of the women and children which means that there are reduced chances of them being homeless. Additionally, men are often perceived as the provider for the family, which means that men who fail to provide for a family often end on roads because they are considered as a liability on the resources of the family as a whole.
