Fertilization between male nuclei and egg cell gives rise to diploid zygote, This zygote undergoes several division and produces diploid embryo which is also sporophyte and this embryo cotains suspensors, cotyledons, radicle, hypocotyl, endosperms. Both the staminate and ovulate cones are diploid and sporophytic nature. The staminate cone is small and oval in shape and consists of microsporophylls while the ovulate cone is large and consists of megasporophylls with ovuliferous scale. Both microspore and megaspore are haploid and gametophytic in nature. The microspre is also called pollen contains two wings.
