Yes, it is a power instrument because an invisible power, the true interests of one person is hidden from one's knowledge. For example, a wife has no idea that her true interest is not to be in a subservient position to her spouse. She has no idea about her real interest and hence, it is false consciousness.

According to the Marxists, the pervasive power of values, ideology, and economic exploitation of the working class concealing and relations contradictions.

Marx stated that financial exploitation was not only the main cause behind consumerism and capitalism but the whole system was supported by the dominance of the ideas and values of the ruling class. False continuousness prevents the working class to refuse the impression and identify their rights and true value.

In brief, false consciousness is used by the ruling class to oppress and exploit the working class by preventing them to identify their rights and value.
