G proteins(made up of 3 subunits-G alpha,G beta and G gamma) associated with the inner side of membrane and transmembrane receptors of hormones also known as G protein coupled receptors(GPCRs) are called G proteins because they bind the GDP and GTP.GDP remain present in the binding site(inactive) of G alpha so whenever any hormone comes in contact with GPCR there is an allosteric structural change in the G alpha causing the release of GDP then replaced by GTP which in turn activates G alpha.Thereafter activated G alpha seprate itself from G beta and G gamma and actiavtes the another effector molecule which will convey the message of the respective hormone.
