What is workforce diversity?

Workforce diversity means the type of differences or resemblance between the employees of an organization regarding their demographic characteristics like age, sex, caste, religion practiced, etc. It is quite important to have a workforce diversity since diversification is a part of human life and no two persons have the same capability.  Intelligence, skill sets, experience, ideas will vary, so organizations will definitely be benefited as all the employees does not have the same characteristics. The type of work and the problems faced by the organizations are varied and so different types of workforce will be a boon for the organization in terms of work and problem solving.

Summarize/review the articles major points about workforce diversity

Tamunomiebi, Miebaka Dagogo & Dienye Mercy (2019) states the reason for workforce diversity not performing well for an organization and the problems faced by the organization due to diversity and how it could be improved.

Saxena Ankita (2014) studied the similarity and diversity and their impact on an organization's performance.

Thomas Kollen(2019) states that workforce management is a very complicated area and has to be handled carefully.

Seyed‐Mahmoud Aghazadeh (2004) stated that highly qualified managerial skills are needed to handle workforce diversity properly.

5 advantages of practicing/implementing workforce diversity are -

1. There is an increase in the productivity as different types of efforts are put together to achieve the target. So, the productivity increases due to joint effort.

2. Different  creative talents give the work a new look.

3. The company's goodwill also increases if they practice workforce diversity.

4. The organizational climate becomes quite culturally enriched

5. As the productivity of the employees and the company increases, the profit earned also gets inclined

5 disadvantages of practicing/implementing workforce diversity

1. Conflict between the employees due to differentiation in every aspect

2. Communication also becomes tougher due to diversity in languages

3. Favoritism or grouping  if two similar employees come together in diversity

4. May generate hatred towards other religion or caste

5. It may lead to feeling of left out as there are too many views about a single thing and it is not possible to give importance to every opinion.

Provide your opinions on workforce diversity, practicing in your country?

My country is that of a secular, democratic country and the people are practicing different types of religions, lifestyles, food habits, climate etc. There is a huge workforce diversity. People are working together and having unity in diversity. This is a good practice as different people from different economic and social backgrounds are sharing their views, which led to the prosperity of the organization. If in my type of country, there is no diversity and only a single type of criteria for job are preferred, it will have led to huge conflicts between the people.

Conclusion-

Workplace diversity is very encouraging practice for any workplace, but at the same time the organizations should ensure that nobody felt left out and everybody should be provided with the same respect, and opportunity.
