1.

John Snow is a very influential figure in the context of research. Though he was mainly known for his studies on the use of anaesthesia but here we will focus on his research which led to the discovery of the causes of a dangerous Infectious disease. His methodology mainly dealt with observational methods and rigorous activities to track down sources of relevant information and causal information about the ID from geographical grid and analysing those information to come to a causal hypothesis.

The ID he studied was 'Cholera'. He observed that most people who were suffering from cholera or have died due to cholera stay or used to stay near a particular water pump known as the 'Broad street pump'. He also discovered that most families didn't had their own toilets and own water supply and they used to go for the public water pumps for getting water. He also discovered that a lot of animal waste products and sewage gets dumped in the river from which the water reaches the street pumps. Thus, he hypothesized through all these observations that the water of the street pump was the main cause of that cholera outbreak.

He is known for pioneering the investigation technique of 'Epidemiology' which deals with investigation of distribution of a disease, it's probable incidence and also it's causes and possible ways of interventions.
