What is two examples of The Rorschach Test? and explain how this clinical personality measure could be used in professional settings.
The Rorschach test (RT), also known as the inkblot test, is a psychological test wherein the perceptions of a subject about inkblots (10 pictures of inkblots) are recorded, analyzed with the help of complex algorithms, psychological interpretation, and even examine the emotional functioning, mental disorders, emotional problems, and personality characteristics of an individual. This test has been hugely used since the 1940s till date by the psychiatrists and psychologists to assess personality and find underlying thought disorders.
The perception of a subject may be formed by more than one determinant. Hence, two determinants’ fusion is considered while analyzing and assessing which contributor is primary and which is secondary. For example, the response “form-color” could be considered highly refined impulse control compared to “color-form”. In fact, one can infer the personality of the subject from the balance and relation among determinants.
Another example is that of the “bow tie” response for the 3rd card’s center details, but because in French the equivalent term refers to “butterfly tie", an examiner who doesn’t appreciate this language may interpret the response not as expected.
Other projective methods of personality testing include the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), the TEMAS (Tell-Me-A-Story), etc.
Since the RT test helps identify the personality and emotional disorders in an individual, it can be used in office settings to examine the emotional functioning and personality characteristics of the employee.
