The two major parts of the nervous system are -

  • Central Nervous System - It is comprised of the brain and the spinal cord.
  • Peripheral Nervous System - It is comprised of the several nerves that originate from the spinal cord and spread out to different parts or peripheries of the body.

The Central Nervous System is the "processing unit" of the signals collected by the Peripheral Nervous System. After processing the signal received, the Central Nervous System sends back signals to the  Peripheral Nervous System as a response to the event(s) that generated the signals in the first place.
