As per Boyle' law , pressure of a gas at constant moles and temperature is inversely related to the volume of gas.

P1V1 = P2V2

V2 = (P1V1) ÷ P2

P1 and V1 are initial pressure and volume of gas while P2 and V2 are final pressure and volume of gas having same moles and same temperature.

For the given question;

P1 = 870mmHg × (1atm/760mmHg) = 1.145atm

V1 = 4.25L

P2 = 2.40atm

V2 = to be determined.

Put all values to calculate V2 ;

V2 = (1.145atm × 4.25L) ÷ 2.40atm = 2.03L

Option (b) 2.03L , is the correct answer.
