For this chapter, you should write a short (one or two paragraphs) case study on one of the diseases of the digestive system. Your case study should have the most important information that allows someone else to figure out what the disease or pathogen is, but not so much that it is super easy.

You will earn 4 points for writing a case study that is:

  • on topic (an infectious disease of the digestive system)
  • one or two paragraphs long
  • scientifically accurate
  • not too easy or too difficult.

And you will earn 1 point for posting a (plausible) guess on someone else's case study.

It is harder than you think to write a good case study. Take your time and go through a couple of drafts. Read it out loud to yourself. Although this is not an English class, poor spelling and grammar detract from the value of the case study.

case selected for the story listed above. It is to make up a study describing the case below and suppose to not say the disease just describe it so people can guess what it is.

Clinical findings: Pain while chewing, halitosis (bad breath).
Treatment: Removal of damaged areas, antibiotic treatment (against anaerobic bacteria).
Prevention: Brushing, flossing.

ANSWER :-

Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis is a condition which is characterized by inflammation of the gums in which they become swollen and the main reason behind this occurrence is the presence of dental plaques reflecting the poor hygiene maintenance of the teeth and the oral cavity. Necrotizing meaning that there will be formation of puss and blood which will enhance the sensitivity of the gum portion mainly the papilla part between the teeth and adjacent gum region thereby enhancing the damage and may result in bursting of the portion at the time of brushing.

CASE STUDY

Joseph, a 32 year old male, smoker with previous medical history suggesting infection with Lung cancer and being immunocompromised as was evident from the result. He complained about bleeding from the gums often during cleaning the oral cavity with painful sensation near the lower portion of the gums. He also presented with problems while swallowing food. Doctor diagnosed the condition and suggested combination of Amoxicillin and Tetracycline as a part of treatment.
