NMR instruments range in size, why are 500MHz (and larger NMR in general) superior to 300MHz or smaller instruments?

Why does carbon NMR require more scans (and more time) to realize accurately than proton NMR?

Answer #1

1. Instrument operating at 500 MHz give better sensitivity and resolution than those operating at 300 MHz.

2. 13C with natural abundance of 1.1% is NMR active. This low natural abundance along with lower gyromagnetic ratio for 13C causes sensitivity to decrease. Due to this lower sensitivity, obtaining a13C NMR spectrum with specific signal to noise ratio requires averaging more spectra than the number of spectra that would be required to average in order to get the same signal to noise ratio for proton NMR spectrum.

According to Robert Trivers, why are men generally larger and more physically aggressive than women? Because women are more reproductively “valuable” than men, hence competition for mates is fiercer among men Because men invest more heavily in reproduction than women Because men secrete more testosterone Trivers’ theory does not speculate on the origin of the sex difference in size and physical aggression Although some women are interested in casual sex (short-term mating), research has suggested that there are differences in...
