Write a new sentence as similar as possible in meaning to the original sentence. Use the words given in bold letters.

1. You look awful. Have you been unwell .

· You look as though you have been unwell.

Explanation- As though refers to as if. In the statement, the two different statements “You look awful” and “Have you been unwell” are joined with the bold letters as though. It is used for comparison or refers to an imaginary image/situation.

· If only you did not drive very fast.

                Explanation- The statement “Unfortunately he was driving very fast” is a negative connotation which implies that there were negative consequences of driving fast. If only is similar in meaning to I wish (you did not drive very fast to avoid the accident).

· It’s time to pay the bill now.

Explanation- Ought refers to should. It is used in both present and future tense. Hence, the statement “We really ought to pay the bill now” refers that it’s time to pay the bill now and no exceptions are allowed.

· I would sooner take the later flight.

Explanation- The statement “Taking the later flight would be preferable for me” refers that the later flight would be my preference. The phrase would sooner refer that I prefer a particular option over the other.
