Reason : Because Porosity of sandy soil 0.43 and 0.36 and that of clay porosity is between 0.58 and 0.51.

2. Shear strength of soils

Reason: "Shear strength of soil material decreases with decrease of cohesive strength while normal stress and angle of internal friction remain same" (Chaulya, 1993). This decrease in shear strength reduces stability of dump. Shear strength of spoil material also decreases as the angle of internal friction decreases, which in turn reduces stability of the dump.
