n the first few months of your new job, you will be in a probationary period where your employer will be assessing your performance and your suitability for the job, and making up their minds about whether you’ll remain with the company. Once you’ve successfully completed your probationary period, you’ll have ongoing performance reviews. Your employers will give you feedback on how well you’re performing on the job and they will give you constructive criticism and identify opportunities for improvement from time to time. Being successful on the job and in your career includes asking for and receiving feedback on your performance, on how you’re doing in the company and on the team, and what you need to work on or do differently in the future.

Answer 1 –

Probation refers to the trial period for newly recruited workers where they are free from contractual terms and notice periods. Employee can anytime leave the organisation without giving any notice or stating a reason. Similarly, employer can terminate the employee without any notice period. Purpose of probation is explained in below points –

· It allow a specific time period for the employer to assess the new recruiters job performance. Employers can check if employee will be able to deliver to promised skills into the job, weather they follow company’s guidelines, punctual to work and weather they fit into organisation culture or not.

· It is important for employees as well. It allows them to check the suitability of the role after having firsthand experience. They can check if they are able to work in the assigned job, team and weather they fit into organisational culture or not.

· Employees can develop the knowledge and skills needed in their new job through trainings given in probation period.

Answer 2 –

Employer is watching following things during the probation period of employee –

· Timekeeping of employee. Employer checks if the employee is able to finish the tasks on time or if he is just delaying the tasks.

· Employer checks the attendance of employees. They watch weather employee is taking too much unplanned leaves without stating any valid reason.

· Employer watches if the personality of the new recruiters matches with the organisation culture. They check whether they are able to work well in a team, follow ethical guidelines, etc.

· Employers also check if the employees are able to deliver the skills into jobs assigned which they have promised at the time of interview.

Answer 3 –

It is most important to ask for feedback and to receive feedback with professionalism because it will only help you to grow and develop more. Feedback always gives a scope of improvement. Employees must ask for feedback, during and at the of probation period to know what changes they need to bring to perform better in organisation and if they get positive feedback that will increase their morale to work even harder.

Employers must also ask for feedback from employee to make the working experience of employee better. If employees would be happy then they will work with more effectiveness and efficiency.

Every member of the organisation must take negative and positive feedback professionally without taking it personally as it will only help in growing and developing yourself more.

Various ways to ask for and receive feedback are –

· Honest assessment – Directly ask your employer for open and honest assessment of yourself by explaining the concern and area of improvement.

· Ask Open-ended questions as it will provide additional information as well.

· Specifically asking feedback on certain area with direct questions having yes/no answers. It saves time of employer and employee both.
