DiGeorge syndrome is also known as 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. This disorder is caused when a small part of chromosome 22 is missing. Basically it is a chromosomal disorder that results in Poor development of several bodily systems.

It can cause multiple problems:-

  • Heart defects
  • Poor immune system function
  • Cleft palate
  • Hypocalcemia
  • Delayed growth
  • Breathing problem
  • Learning delays
  • Behavior problem s
  • Poor muscle tone

Repercussion to body defence mechanism caused by the George disorder are the following:-

  • It can cause heart defects that could result in an insufficient supply of oxygen rich blood .for example ventricular septal defect ,TOF.
  • Due to to the the deletion of 22 chromosome parathyroid glands are smaller then the normal one so it secrete less parathyroid hormone which leading to hypoparathyroidism.
  • in this disorder the thymus gland may be small or missing resulting in poor immune function and frequent severe infection.
  • Having problems with the development and function of the brain resulting in learning social development or behavioral problems.
  • Many more complications are also seen in this syndrome such as hearing impairment ,poor vision b,problems poor , kidney function etc.
