Think of a time when you have used self-talk—for example, giving yourself “I can do this!” messages when you are striving to meet a challenge, or “what’s the use?” messages when you are discouraged. Did you purposely choose to use self-talk, or did it just happen?
The self-talk has been useful and successful in making great speeches and delivering great performances. It boosts the self-confidence of individuals when they are nervous or need a push to be decisive.
One of the examples of using the self-talk was in a football tournament I participated for my church. We had reached the knockout stage and the game went to a penalty shootout. I had decided to take the last shot in the shootout. The opponent had missed one of the first two shots and it was up to me to score the last penalty to ensure victory. This was a new experience since I felt the pressure of the entire team on my shoulders and became nervous. In this instance, I used the self-talk to gain confidence before I scored to shake off the nervousness. I said to myself "You can do this, you have never missed one in a game." I managed to scored the last penalty and saw how self-talk helped me in this situation.
The nervousness was the reason behind having the self-talk and it happened just like that.

When you are ready to invest,do you think you will want to do it yourself or use an advisor to make this explain?
We often conform to social norms without even realizing it. Can you remember a time when you, someone else you know, or an individual in history who broke a social norm? For example: Getting in a crowded elevator and turning to face everyone instead of staring at the door or instead of holding the door open for a person behind you, purposely shut the door, etc. Write a brief essay in which you explain what a social norm is. Then...

Think about a company you are familiar with. Feel free to use the College (COTC) as the company you choose, or a current or former company you may have worked for. In which areas do you see that the company is at the risk of falling into success traps, of just going on autopilot? What can you do to challenge the current path? When did you explore something new last, and what kind of effect did it have on you?...
Now imagine yourself listening intently to each of the clients quoted below. First use the “You feel . . . because . . .” formula; then use your own words. Try to make the second response sound as natural (as much like yourself) as possible. After you use your own words, check to see if you have both a “you feel” part and a “because” part in your response. Case 1. A 28-year-old woman is talking about her job with...
When you need to complete a group project: 1. What are you hoping to achieve? Think about the teams and projects that were very successful for you. What strategies, processes or norms were in place that worked? How were your skills utilized? 2. What are your concerns? Think about the teams and projects that were NOT successful for you. What were the specific pitfalls and how can your new group deliberately avoid or manage them going forward? 3. What's your...
As an I/O psychologist, what staffing method or model do you think would be used most often? When might you choose one method over another?
Give an example of a time when someone you know conveyed an important message but did so using the wrong channel. For example, has anyone ever shared bad or important news with you, but done it via text? Do you have an example of important information that was shared via a poorly worded email and so it was misunderstood? Give as much detail as you can about the situation and why you think the chosen channel was incorrect. Lastly, outline...
