A fair die is rolled.

The sample space is {1,2,3,4,5,6}.

All the outcomes are equlaly likely.

We have to find the probability that the outcome is more than 2, ie. P(Greater than 2).

Now, if the result is greater than 2, then the favourable results are 3,4,5 and 6.

We note that the sample space is {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}.

So, there are 6 all possible cases.

The set of favourable cases is {3, 4, 5, 6}.

So, there are 4 favourable cases.

We know, that the probability of an event is nothing but the ratio of the number of favourable cases, to the number of all possible cases; this is because all the outcomes are equally likely.

probability=\frac{ Favourable }{ Possible }

So,

P(Greater than 2)

6

=\frac{2}{3}

=0.6667

The annswer is

P(GreaterThan2)=\frac{2}{3}

or,

P(GreaterThan2)=0.6667
