The various types of dermatitis are -

  1. Allergic dermatitis - It is one of the most common form of dermatitis which includes red, itchy, scaly rashes with visible borders. It happens due to the allergy of our skin in contact with some other agents like perfume, latex, rubber, metal or dyes
  2. Irritant dermatitis - Both irritant and allergic dermatitis are similar in appearance but only the difference is irritant dermatitis does not form boundaries like allergic dermatitis and occurs as soon as the skin gets exposed to the irritating elements like soaps, cleansers, and solvents
  3. Atopic dermatitis - This type of dermatitis is actually a immunologic disease in which the skin of the patient becomes hyper-senstive to any foreign body or substance and forms scratches accompanied by severe itching and blistering.
  4. Neurodermatitis - This is a different kind of dermatitis which happens in healthy skin. Neurodermatitis is more of an itching sensation rather then actual scratch on the skin and includes the nerve end of the skin.
  5. Nummular dermatitis - This type of dermatitis causes noticeable, coin-shaped, oval sores on the skin and happens due to factors like a bug bite or burn forming pus and crusty surface.
  6. Seborrheic dermatitis - This is common type of dermatitis which causes usual red, itchy, scaly patches due to excess oil production on the surface of our skin like the face, nose and scalp. A yeast-like microbe is responsible for this condition.
  7. Stasis dermatitis - Usually occurs in older patients. Skin inflammation occurs due to worsening of the valves within the veins responsible for blood circulation and creating a condition where RBC fills up in the layer of skin.

Similarities - All types of dermatitis appears on the surface of the skin, making it red, scratchy and with an itching sensation.

Differences - The causes, the skin area, the redness and the infammation aree different in each one of them.

b. The most common types of medication used for skin disorders are -

  • Corticosteroid creams: For scaling and itching.
  • Antibiotics: For bacterial infections, sores and skin cracks.
  • Antihistamines: For different allergies.
  • Oral tablets or corticosteroids injection: For inflammation and severe itching control.
  • Immunomodulators: Enhance immunity and normalize the surface of the skin.
