On the first day of class your professor distnbuted a syllabus that promised to base your course grade on a series of unannounced exams and a massive group project. As you scanned the room that day, you noted that many of your classmates did not share your enthusiasm for the subject and many were C students at best. You felt that your perfect 40 GPA was at stake if the professor's almost diabolical grading scheme were to be implemented You decided right away that it was up to you to negotiate a grading scheme of equal parts class attendance, open book quizzes and trivial homework assignments How should you prepare for the negotiation and how should you proceed?

As we can see this case, the grading system is solely depending upon the massive group projects and unannounced exams. Thus, the way I would like to start my negotiation would be by reaching out to the professor and explaining them about how being a new student this system of grading doesn't feel like a suitable and appropriate one. Unlike every other system that are being followed in other schools, you are grading a student only on the basis of exams and the project performance being shown. But what if he falls sick or have something extra job or activity to do. These marks won't only affect our GPA but also our future prospects and the jobs we would be doing in the later life.

After making a good introductory point, I would continue my negotiation with why the other system is better. The other system is a better option because here you are covering not only the academic part of the student's life and academic frotn, but also judging and marking the marks on the basis of attendance which shows punctuality, quizes which shows interests and activeness and also the homework assignment and regularity which shows discipline. The point is, instead of grading on solely on the basis of marks and projects, grade on the overall assessment of the student. It would not only help the kids in emergency to score a better grade but also the weak performing ones to be motivated and try better and harder so that they could score well if not in one field than other to have a good grade for their future.
